General

The city of Tampere is located in southern Finland, 180 km north of Helsinki. There are excellent flight connections to Finland from all parts of the world. Several international airlines offer regular flights to Helsinki. From Helsinki to Tampere you can travel by train or bus (probably the most convenient options), or have a connecting flight to Tampere. Finland is also easily reached by sea especially from Estonia, Sweden and Germany, and there are international train connections from Russia.

By Plane

Flights to/via Helsinki:

There are over 150 direct flights daily from all over the world to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Helsinki Airport is served especially well from Asian and European destinations. To reach Tampere, you can fly first to Helsinki and then continue by taking a train or a bus (see By train and By bus below).

There are a number of daily connecting flights from Helsinki to Tampere as well. Flight time is only 25 minutes. Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located in Pirkkala about 17 kilometres from Tampere city centre. From Tampere-Pirkkala Airport you can get to Tampere city by taking a taxi or a bus (bus 1A or, if traveling with Ryanair, by Ryanair's own bus).

By train

You can travel from Helsinki (Helsinki-Vantaa) Airport to Tampere by train. The Ring Rail Line runs through the airport. You can transfer from the airport to Tikkurila Station (or to Helsinki Central Station) and change to long-distance trains to Tampere. Full-priced tickets from Helsinki Airport to Tampere cost approximately 20 - 25 €. Pendolino and intercity trains offer a convenient means of transportation in about 1,5 hours (occasional delays may occur). You can check available train connections here.

By bus

Another way to travel from Helsinki Airport to Tampere is by bus. Buses to Tampere depart in front of the terminals. Timetables and platforms are clearly guided at the terminals. Buses depart almost every hour from Monday to Sunday. The bus schedules can be found by using the Matkahuolto timetable search (for example from ‘Helsinki-Vantaa’ to ‘Tampere’). The bus journey to Tampere central bus station takes about 2.5 hours and the bus fare is about 30 € one way.

From Helsinki city centre you can travel to Tampere either with Express busses or with Onnibus. With Onnibus you can also get directly to venue in Hervanta. If traveling with Onnibus from Helsinki, you can choose several destinations in Tampere. ‘Tampere’ means the central bus station. ‘Tampere (Hervanta)’ offers a local shuttle connection to Hervanta (if you are going directly there).

By sea

Finland is also easily reached by sea from Tallinn, Estonia (2-3 hours), Stockholm, Sweden (overnight) and Travemünde/Lübeck, Germany (27 hours). There are also daily ferries between Turku and Stockholm (10-12 hours); direct trains from Port of Turku to Tampere take around two hours. There are good bus connections to Tampere directly from the ferry terminals.
